Why the door comes first on a column
An integrated column hides everything behind a panel that looks like the rest of the kitchen, including the one thing that most often goes wrong with it: the seal between door and cabinet. A gasket that has hardened, torn at a corner or crept out of its channel lets damp kitchen air in a little at a time. The column copes for a while, then frosts, sweats along one edge or runs warm after an evening of opening and closing.
