Warm wine gives little warning
A zone that has crept up by several degrees looks exactly as it did before, and the first sign is often a bottle that feels warmer in the hand than it should. The panel will not tell you: Sub-Zero’s guidance is that the number on the display is the setting, not the temperature of the wine. For a fair reading, stand a thermometer in a glass of water halfway into the zone and halfway up, and leave it twelve hours.
One zone or the whole cabinet
On a unit with two zones, one drifting while the other holds points away from the condenser and toward the parts inside the cabinet: the fans and the sensors. Both drifting together points at the condenser, which on Sub-Zero’s undercounter and Designer wine models sits behind the kickplate at the base, where floor dust collects. When a wine unit runs warm, Sub-Zero’s own troubleshooting asks whether that condenser has been cleaned within the past three months.
The door and the room
A door that has not quite closed, because a bottle sits out of line on its rack, warms a zone just as surely as a failed part, and Sub-Zero lists a door left ajar among its first checks. Where the wine unit lives in a separate room rather than the kitchen run, the room counts too: a space that turns cold in winter or warm in summer can push the cabinet outside the conditions it was built for.
